Help getting going

Hi there,
kinda new to this. Have just set up a Joomla site and installed JW Player and want to run some videos off my server. I've managed to set a Youtube link working in the Playlist manager section. But i can't figure out how to get it to run an MP4 off my server. Is it as simple as putting a link to the file root or do i need to do it differently?

you just have to set in the backend of the module -->

1 - the origin of the playlist as single file

2 - put the full address to your mp4 in the single file field

yes have done this, but it comes up as video not found.
Does it matter where i put it?
